Welcome to Year 5!
Our little Robins can be summed up in one word – enthusiastic! They are really enjoying a range of picture books and novels by siginificant children's authors. This is inspiring us to create exciting pieces of writing!
We are always solving problems and 'proving' our understanding. This is encouraging us to be excellent Mathematicians. We are beginning to work with increasingly large numbers and choosing the most efficient mental strategy or written method.
Autummn term, we focus on 'Were the Saxons really smashing?' as well as 'Why gunpowder, treason and plot should never be forgotten'. This look in to the life and times of the Anglo-Saxons and the Stuarts allows children to learn about historical figures, famous artefacts and create interesting pieces of art work!
Spring Term we focus on an in depth study about Rainforests and Rivers; having physical and human features as our main focus. Children love learning about endangered species and all of the technical terminology about rivers across the world. They even get to meet some 'special visitors' as a way to hook their interests about the life cycles of plants and animals.
Summer Term is our time to delve in to the wonders of Ancient Egypt! We look at gods and goddesses; beliefs and tranditons; home life; agricultural background; architecture (including the Pyramids) and much more! Children enjoy researching about Howard Carter and what it is like to be a real archaeologist.
