Welcome to our Year 4 class page

This year we will be exploring a number of topics that will be sure to enthuse and engage our children throughout the entire year.

Autumn - Our topic for this term will be 'Liverpool'. The children will be studying a range of areas within this topic including; the history of Liverpool, geographical locations and landmarks and also significant events throughout time (The Slave Trade, the Albert Dock, The Titanic). We will be completing several pieces of writing inlcuding: 

  • Stories set in imaginary worlds
  • Stories which raise issues and dilemmas
  • Stories with historical settings
  • Persuasive texts
  • Information texts
  • Poetry

 

Spring - Our topic for this term is 'Ancient Rome.' The children will studying Roman myths and legends as well as famous battles and significant historical figures. The children will also focus on 'Roman Britain' and how the Romans influenced what we see today. We will also link this topic to Maths through Roman Numerals and time. We will be completing several pieces of writing inlcuding:

  • Explanation texts
  • Newspaper reports
  • Stories from other cultures
  • Poetry
  • Stories set in imaginary worlds

 

Summer - Our topic for this term is 'New York City'. The children will learn about the history of NYC and some of the famous landmarks. They will also look at American traditions and festivals and their importance. We will also be making comparisons between America and Britain. We will be reading the book 'The Borrowers' to make certain links. We will be completing several pieces of writing inlcuding:

  • Poetry
  • Explanation texts
  • Stories which raise issues and dilemmas
  • Stories with historical settings
  • Recounts
  • Magazines

 

 

Important dates to remember:

Wednesdays - Homework due

Thursdays - P.E. kits needed

Fridays - Reading logs checked and spelling test
