Science

At Robins Lane our curriculum follows the National Curriculum 2014 with Science being taught discretely with some links to topic work where appropriate. Science taught in reception will be taught using guidance from the Early Years Foundation Stage document. All lessons incorporate key skills as well as subject specific skills. Throughout both key stages the Science Curriculum will be planned and taught using guidance and advice from the Learning Challenge Curriculum ensuring working scientifically strands.

Within each year group teachers and learners will begin each topic with a ‘WOW’ question such as; ‘why does a dinosaur not make a good pet?’ which engages the pupils and encourages them to want to learn more to gain answers to the wider question. Teaching is based on prior learning tasks and lessons are then planned to build and extend learning this allows the children to guide and build on their prior knowledge, which will engage them in a level of work that is appropriate to their needs.

Each class has their own 'Super Scientists' these are two children from each class who are Science leaders for their class. They also take part in a Science club every Wednesday lunchtime.
