Year 3 Spring Term 2015 Letter

Dear Parents/Carers,

We have had a very busy and productive Spring term where the children have enjoyed learning through our novel ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ by Roald Dahl. We have been developing our design and technology skills by designing and making our own chocolate bars for Willy Wonka’s factory. We researched different types of chocolate by tasting (this was our favourite part) and then voted for our favourite. We collated our results into bar graphs and used our favourite type to make our own. As part of our research of chocolate, we learned all about the cacao tree and used our map skills to find the rainforests where the tree grows. We also learned all about the importance of healthy eating and balanced diets. During this science topic, we explored the human body and the circulatory system as well.

Next term, we will begin our new topic surrounding the novel ‘Peter Pan’ by J.M. Barrie. We would like your child to dress up as a character from this book on the first day of term. Children will be exploring different scenes in Peter Pan and creating their own Puppet Theatre. Using the puppet theatre as a stimulus, children will learn  how to write a play and perform their own scenes. Children will also explore the question ‘Why couldn’t Peter Pan keep his shadow safe?’ in Science lessons. We will also be looking at creating treasure maps and using our map skills to find the hidden treasure!

During the holidays I would like your child to complete the activities on Mathletics and continue to practise their times tables. I have also sent home a list of spellings, please could you encourage your child to practise the highlighted words. As well as this I would like them to create their own Neverland!

Have a wonderful Easter!

Yours Sincerely,

Miss Tickle
